syrupy dreams

   the consistency
of my dreams
   has changed
       recently
   they're heavy
in a way
that leaves me
   wanting
       more
syrupy
in a way
that melts
around
       my tongue
I long for
the cool waters of certainty
  that come
      with deep
       knowing
but instead of a clear pool
the images vanish
on smoky wisps
       of memory
leaving me
wanting
  to dive back in
   to swim in serenity
to allow the thick, slow molasses to pull me under
     to taste freedom
just for a glimpse
a connection
a tether
to another world
   that makes me feel
      whole
